We haven't been doing much these last few weeks so I've been a slacker about blogging. Our apartment complex had a pool party last weekend. There was a blow-up slip and slide, sprinklers, food, games and drawings. It was a lot of fun and since there weren't many people there we scored some good prizes.  We got $25 off our rent (we used it to get a covered parking spot which is SO nice.) We also won two $25 gift certificates to restaurants (now Jake has no excuse to not take me out to dinner.)
Jake won one of those certificates by winning the frozen t-shirt contest. They had frozen shirts and whoever got theirs thawed and on first won. These are the male and female winners.
We have been finding these guys in our apartment. Isn't he cute?  It is a baby Mediterranean gecko. They are only 1 1/2 -2 inches long. They are so fast!

Jake and I were called as nursery leaders about a month ago. We have 12-16 kids every week and we are the only ones called to nursery. We  have to get volunteer helpers every week. It is crazy every week. We have 3 kids with different levels of autism and then some twins that have more energy than I have ever seen (they make several nursery escapes running down the hall as fast as they can). We come home from church exhausted! The nursery is fun, but it will be nice to get back to Relief Society in a few weeks when we move back to Lubbock. Just 3 weeks left here! Time sure does fly.

Staycation

My family came to visit last week. It was great having them here. We showed them around Fort Worth, and hopefully they got a Texas experience. Tueday we went to the Stockyards.

  • We went in the western/cowboy shops

  • The girls went  on lots of horse rides

  • We watched a cattle drive

  • We ate some Texas BBQ
Wednesday we went to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.

My dad and Jake went to a Texas Rangers game Wednesday night. (The girls stayed home and watched a movie. I didn't think Kaylee and Brooke could last until 10:30.)

Thurday we went to the zoo.

Friday was Jake's day off so we headed to the Dallas Temple while Grandma, Grandpa, and Kelli babysat.
It was a good hour drive to the temple. I miss our 10 minute drive to the Lubbock Temple.
When we got back from the temple we went to the Water Gardens, drove downtown and went to the library.

Later we drove through a tropical storm downpour to go to dinner at an authentic Texas BBQ joint. It was complete with lots of stuffed anmials on the walls.
Rain or shine we did a lot of this...It is so nice having a pool!

We loved having visitors! Kaylee and Brooke were spoiled with lots of attention, stuffed animals, princess dresses, and cowgirl hats, they cried when we dropped my family off at the airport. Who wants to come next?

Happy 4th of July

We went to the Zoo Saturday and had a lot of fun. Kaylee and Brooke love it there! They love to wear matching clothes (especially dresses) and people always ask if they are twins.
Brooke got to touch a snake (Kaylee did last time but wanted nothing to do with it yesterday.)
Since Independence day is on Sunday this year we didn't get to go to parades or other celebrations, so here is our patriotic Bald Eagle at the zoo
And the flamingos were kind enough to put on a parade for us.
Happy 4th of July! We hope we can see some fireworks from our apartment.

Texas Bugs

Last night we went looked out on our balcony and this is what we saw....
Beetles everywhere.....
There was also this guy out there. This morning I rolled over and felt a pinch. This big beetle somehow made it inside, was in my bed and bit me! I know he only bit me because I was laying on him, but he should not be in my house and definitely not in my bed! I made Jake get it and throw him outside.
