Swimming Lessons

Kaylee stared swimming lessons yesterday. This is her first time and so far she isn't loving it. Not because it is hard or scary but it is so COLD! It's been cloudy, windy and only around 72 degrees the past two mornings. The poor girl has just been shivering in the pool and can't wait to get out.

It is supposed to be sunny tomorrow! Hopefully she won't freeze to death the rest of the classes.

It was that kind of day...

Monday was a really hard day. Emma screamed all morning! It wasn't just crying but really screaming. high pitched loud screaming! While taking care of her I looked outside and found Austin in the swimming pool (full of rain water from the storm the night before) in his pajamas. I just let him play a while... he was entertained.

I finally got Emma to sleep around 12:30. All the screaming must have tired her out. She slept 2 hours. When she woke up I put her in her bouncy seat. She started crying again so I picked her up and discovered why she was crying and had been crying all morning. Yuck! It was one of those kind of days....

Happy Birthday!

Yesterday was Jake's birthday. We had some friends over on Sunday for pie and ice cream. I made way too much pie (we had 2 left over).

Yesterday Jake got to open his presents. Our friends watched the kids so Jake and I could go out to dinner. He had to study for a test after our date so his birthday wasn't thrilling, but a least it was better than last year when he was recovering from surgery and in a lot of pain.

Fun Run

Our Stake put on a fun run last weekend to gather food for the food bank here in Lubbock. Everyone brought a bag of food to donate instead of paying a fee to run.

The whole family did the 1 mile fun run. Brooke did awesome! She was the first one in the family to cross the finish line. I had to sprint at the end with the stroller to try and catch up to her. Jake waited for Kaylee (she was a good runner too.)

Jake also ran the 5k. I got a picture of him ready to start...

but totally missed the finish thanks in part to the elderly couple who stepped out in front.
About 10 min after Jake finished it started to rain pretty hard. Several people had to finish in the pouring rain. It was a lot of fun though. Maybe next year I'll do the 5k too.

Summer

We don't have access to free swimming pools here like we did in Fort Worth so the kids had to make due with this one today. It kept them happy for quite a while though. It's a little harder to get out a lot this summer since we have Emma.

Because we can't get out so easy I came up with a summer schedule so the kids aren't always saying "what can I do?" or "can I have something to eat?"  It worked out pretty well last week. I'm not super strict about it as long as they do their jobs and some reading and writing. I just didn't want them watching TV all day. It has been helpful. I can just tell the kids "go look at the schedule" if they ask about something.

Father's Day

I am grateful for such a good husband and father! Jake really is amazing!
The kids all made him a father's day card and he got some new sunglasses. (He requested a note saying I bought him nothing and just saved the money like last year, but I got something he needed anyway.)

Modeling their new sunglasses...

We made Jake some low fat zucchini brownies for his Father's day treat. Despite having fruit and veggis instead of eggs and oil they were pretty good. Austin obviously enjoyed the batter!

3 Months

Little Miss Emma is 3 months old! She is smiling more, making little noises and much more alert.
She still has her crying days, but is getting much better!

If we ever can't get Emma to stop crying we just have to put her in the bath tub. She LOVES to be in the tub!

Everyone got new sunglasses and wore them to the park.

Don't leave Kelli!!

Last picture before Grandma and Grandpa left.
We loved having visitors and grateful for the work they did...

...installed a storm door...

...added on to our patio, and also finished my DIY headboard (which I don't have a picture of) and help with yard work.

Buffalo Springs Lake

We were pretty much the only ones at the beach at Buffalo Springs Lake. If it were free to get in we would be there a lot! The kids loved the water and playing in the sand.

The girls and Kelli kept swimming across the lake (the small section we were at) and then running back to our spot.

Beach Beauties!

Sleeping beach baby...

We had lunch, played some more then headed home for nap time.

Swimming

Grandma and Grandpa got a hotel for 2 nights and kids had a great time swimming there.

Emma liked watching everyone swim.

Austin was brave with his life jacket on. He would float on his back, jump in, and swim by himself!

One of the first times we were able to get a picture of Emma smiling.

Hanging out after swimming.

Heritage Center

The National Ranching Heritage Center is a fun place to explore.

It was a little too hot but it was still fun.
